Yep, bold statement.
But stick with me. The marketing world is jam-packed with noise, fluff, and over-complication. And if you’ve ever Googled “how to grow your business,” you’ve probably been hit with a tsunami of jargon, 90-slide funnels, and strategies that require a marketing PhD just to decipher.
Let’s cut through that.
In reality, there are only four ways to grow a business:
- Cold Outreach
- Warm Outreach
- Organic Content
- Promoted Content
That’s it. Everything else is just a variation on these themes.
As Alex Hormozi (over at Acquisition.com) often says — if you’re doing under $3M a year, don’t try to master everything at once. Pick one channel, get amazing at it, and scale from there.
You’re getting customers from somewhere already (you probably wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t), so let’s just double down on what’s already working.
Let’s Build the 10-Minute Marketing Plan
Say you’re doing £1M/year, and most of that’s coming from cold outreach. You’ve got a couple of reps pounding the phones, and cold outreach is closing 60% of your business. The rest comes from referrals or inbound leads.
To scale that, you need to understand one thing:
Control Points.
Here’s what your funnel might look like, measured in reverse from the sale:
- Sale = £12,000
- 2 Sales Calls → 1 Sale
- 5 Pre-Sales/Discovery Calls → 2 Sales Calls
- 276 Cold Calls → 5 Pre-Sales Calls
Here’s the magic:
You can’t control sales. You can control how many cold calls are made. That’s your lever.
So…
- £12,000 = 276 Cold Calls
- £600,000 in revenue = 13,800 Cold Calls
Now let’s double the business
Target revenue: £2M
Current revenue from cold outreach: £600K
New revenue required: £1.4M
To get an extra £1M from cold calls alone:
- £1,000,000 / £12,000 per sale = 83.3 sales
- 83.3 sales × 276 calls per sale = 22,980 calls
But don’t forget — you still have to make the original 13,800 calls to maintain the current £600K.
Total calls needed for £2M/year:
13,800 (existing) + 22,980 (growth) = 36,780
Now Let’s Make It Real
You’ve got 6 months to hit this growth.
A solid sales rep can do 150 cold calls/day, or roughly 750/week.
Assuming 47 productive weeks per year, that’s around 35,250 calls/year per rep.
Problem is, if you push one rep to hit 36,000 in half a year, you’ll break them. Not sustainable.
Smarter Option?
Hire 3 reps making 100 calls/day each.
That’s 300 calls/day × 120 working days = 36,000 calls in 6 months.
The cost?
- 3 reps × ~£20K each for 6 months = £60K
- The potential upside? £1M in new revenue
That’s a 16.6x ROI — not too shabby.
But Here’s the Catch…
This plan only works if:
- You know your numbers
- You understand your funnel
- You can spot the weak points and fix them
If you don’t know how many calls it takes to get a pre-sale, or how many pre-sales lead to a close — you’re flying blind. Scaling junk data just gets you junk results faster.

Don’t start by dreaming about “more leads” or “more sales.”
Start by reversing your funnel.
Find the controllable metric.
Build a plan around that.
And scale what’s already working — not what you hope might work.
Marketing doesn’t need to be complicated.
It just needs to be measurable.
